Things to do in Barbados

Barbados is, undoubtedly, a paradise. With pristine golden beaches stretching down to blissfully clear blue waters, there really is no better place to relax, soak up some sun and forget about the world. But laying on a beach or by a pool all day isn’t necessarily for everyone. After all, you’ve made the trip to one of the world’s most idyllic island paradises, so you want to see what the island has to offer.

With this short guide of places to visit while staying in Barbados, you’ll never be short of something to do or somewhere exciting to visit and be sure to capture the astonishing beauty the island has to offer.

Paddle Boarding

If you’re a reasonably active traveller, paddle-boarding is a fantastic way to take in the stunning vista of the Barbados coastline. Most hotels and resorts on the West Coast have access to paddle boards and kayaks for you to take out on the water. This is also a fantastic way to spot other areas along the coastline you may wish to visit later in your holiday.

Snorkelling

Barbados is famed for its crystal clear waters and diverse marine wildlife, so this is your perfect chance to get up close and personal with the residents of the island’s waters. Grab a snorkel and head out into the water from any of the beaches for a turtle’s eye view of the water.

Island Adventure Tour

Hop into a 4 x 4 and take a 5.5 hour guided tour of the Barbados coastline and discover some of the island’s best-kept secrets. The tour operators provide a round trip pick up from your location and lunch is also provided.

Harrison’s Cave

If you want to take a break from the sun, why not head underground and visit one of Barbados’ most captivating natural wonders. Learn about the geology of the cave from the tour guides before taking an underground train journey through each of the chambers of the cave, each of which is littered with shimmering pools and glittering stalagmites and stalactites.

Oistins Fish Fry

Barbados has plenty to offer by way of bars and restaurants, but if you really want to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the local culture, you should head to Oistins Fish Fry. Every Friday, the small village of Oistin is alive with colour and music, with live entertainment and dancing into the early hours. Enjoy freshly cooked fish, prepared by one of the many stallholders and, of course, sample one (or several) of the many varieties of rum punch on offer.
