Top 3 festivals to attend in Barbados in 2019

Barbados has a rich and vibrant culture and that can be experienced through the festivals.

Crop Over

The origins of the festival began over 200 years ago during the colonial times when sugar cane and slavery was common. The festival disbanded briefly during WW2 and was restarted in 1974 by a group of local stakeholders along with the Barbados Tourism board.

The festival runs from June to August 5th 2019. The Grand Kadooment day (the climax of the festival) is on the August the 5th 2019. The final day is aptly named because Kadooment means a big joyous celebration.

The festival is infused with the rich cuisine of the island with plenty of food and drinks. There are also stalls for crafts and street parties.

Barbados Food and Rum Festival

If you liked the food and drink that was on offer at Crop Over then you will love the Food and Rum festival.

Barbados is often hailed as a culinary capital of the Caribbean so this festival is perfect to celebrate the food and rum that is on the island. Some of the islands top chefs and mixologists will be there to treat your taste buds to Barbados’ finest.

The festival runs from the 18th of October to 21st of October but dates for 2019 may vary.

Run Barbados

For those who looking for a chance to sneak in a workout whilst staying on the island then there is a festival for you. The Run Barbados which starts in late November or early December was started by Sir Austin Sealy and Carl Bayley.

The run has become one of the popular events on the island that has attracted runners from all over the world.

There is a range of runs for everyone; midnight fun mile, 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon.
